Airbag Certification
Certificate of Competence for Work on Pyrotechnic Systems pursuant to Section 4 (3) of the First Ordinance to the Explosives Act (1. SprengV)
DESCRIPTION
Handling airbags and seat belt tensioner units of category P1 is only permitted for persons who have received appropriate training. For this purpose, restricted expertise must be demonstrated in accordance with Section 4 (2) of the First Ordinance to the Explosives Act (1. SprengV). Therefore, the legislator requires the relevant group of persons to obtain a certificate of competence pursuant to Section 19 of the Explosives Act (SprengG).
The state trade supervisory authorities require, in accordance with Section 14 of the Explosives Act (SprengG), the appointment of responsible specialists in automotive and body repair workshops.
PREREQUISITES
Participants must have completed vocational training in an automotive technical profession.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
+ Safely apply legal requirements for working on pyrotechnic systems
+ Understand the design and function of airbags and seat belt tensioners
+ Carry out proper installation, removal, and safe handling procedures
+ Apply basic fault diagnosis and testing procedures
+ Correctly implement regulations for storage, transport, and disposal
COURSE CONTENT
+ General introduction to vehicle pyrotechnics
+ Overview, structure, and function of airbags and seat belt tensioners
+ Procedures for installation and removal
+ Fault finding and diagnostic methods
+ Legal basis (Sections 14 and 19 of the Explosives Act – SprengG)
+ Use (installation and removal) and storage of airbags
+ Transport and disposal of airbags and pyrotechnic devices
+ Acquisition, distribution, and transfer of pyrotechnic devices
+ Design and operating principles of different generators (gas or hybrid)
+ Written examination
